The white man is mad,
These days, after two long years, I've finally managed to boot up the server case. The start must be slow and careful. Getting inside the box was not an easy task at all, and the protections I introduced there made it very difficult for me to start. As an example, I could mention checking against a longer offline state, several dozen authorization codes for interrupted power supply, unauthorized change of IP addresses or discharge of the backup source and related problems. I still have that kind of control. The box used to cost a lot of money and I wanted the data and the hardware to always be safe in any situation, which I did. However, I now know that some checks would have been appropriate before hibernation. Never mind.
What will happen next? I would like to start all the services you were used to and of course I would like to start the server as soon as possible. However, the process of updating and commissioning the server after two years will not be a matter of hours, but of days for a maximum of weeks. As for repairs, the activity will not be as big and fundamental as you were used to, but I would like to devote myself to the server. I would like to switch to new expansions gradually, but it is possible that we will stay with WOTLK for some time, I will see how it will be for all time and how I will manage it all. The following days will serve as a test run, as much as I can handle outside of my normal work week, hobbies and other duties around but the server will still be running. However, I would like to keep the server running, even if it is not completely full of players. From a financial point of view, it should not be such a problem anymore and I will revive my C++ programming and other skills. For me, server management is important. If over time the server gets a little bit better, my motivation will be to work more on the server. The finance page will no longer be such a paperweight as in the past, and I will try to find ways for the server to earn on itself using non-invasive ads or similar ways, so that posts from players are not important for the operation of the server and its operation is really free and for everyone without exceptions as it was in the past and the posts served purely as a thank you for the work I do here and no benefits in the game, which you have always been with us.
I would like to thank all those who wrote to me on the e-mail of this server and were interested in finding out what is going to happen next and if I plan to restart the server, you were few. Here's your answer. No more stallions, let's go!
Updating the operating system on our server
Like any system, Linux is constantly evolving and much faster, faster and more stable than other operating systems. Our server ran on Ubuntu server version 12.04 with working name Precise Pangolinwhich can be translated as "Precision Nutmeg‘. It is therefore necessary to switch to the latest version, namely 16.04 server edition with working name Xenial Xeruswhich can be translated as "The hospitable squirrel.‘. Xerus is a genus of African ground squirrels. This version is not the most current stable version of this operating system for servers and I will update it to version 16.10. In the years of Linux on this server, it has never happened to me that the server would sometimes crash due to the failure of the operating system or perhaps hinder the operation of the entire system even after a few weeks (!) without restarting the entire system and so Linux will always be the right choice for our server. The update is important for getting the latest technology and system security, speeding up some of the system components we use on a daily basis, and getting the latest technology that today offers. It is mainly about updating the kernel (kernel), the latest MySQL (the system on which our server's database is running), Apache + PHP (our server's website), etc. However, it is a lengthy process and can last for several hours, but I believe that we will succeed sooner. I backed up everything in case of failure and there should be no problem when switching to the latest version of this operating system. During the entire process, the game server, TeamSpeak server and other offline services including this website will be available. Thank you for understanding. Approximate time to complete this action indicates, among other things, the deployment time for the list of fixes.
Due to PHP v7.x issues, the PHP version has been reduced to version 5.6+ before I fine-tune all the edits in the site code to switch to the latest version of PHP. The operating system will also be updated to Ubuntu Server 16.10 (now 16.04) and will therefore be restarted several times during the course, please limit the connection to the server if it is available during the update and testing processes until the server with all adjacent services is fully launched. Thank you for understanding.
Repairs
12.02.2017 – 12:00 (Approximate date and time of deployment of all updates)
1) Updated operating system to Ubuntu Server 16.04
2) Temporarily reduced PHP version for the web
3) Server running and slowly running all other services and updates for almost two years hibernation
4) The server must be recompiled on the latest system and application libraries and will only be done once all other programs and the system have been updated and run without problems
5) The license for TeamSpeak has expired, but I am considering a Non-profit license, but it requires further interventions to our website, the license for 32 seats is free, non-profit offers 512 seats, I will see if we will use TS for such a number even for different clans from official servers to use the capacity
6) The compilation of the server is problematic in two years with new libraries and the compilation method, and I have to adapt a lot of changes in the code, so the server starts as such will be delayed
