Like any system, Linux is constantly evolving and much faster, faster and more stable than other operating systems. Our server runs on Ubuntu server version 10.10 with working name Maverick Meerkatwhich can be translated as "Meerkat‘. It is therefore necessary to switch to the latest version, namely 11.04 server edition with working name Natty Narwhalwhich can be translated as "skillful narwhal‘. This version is now the most current stable version of this operating system even for servers. In the years of Linux on this server, it has never happened to me that the server would sometimes crash due to the failure of the operating system or perhaps hinder the operation of the entire system and server even after a few weeks (!) without restarting the entire system and so Linux will always be the right choice of our server. The update is important for getting the latest technology and security of the entire system, again speeding up some components, daily used and other latest technologies that today offers, such as kernel 2.6.38, the latest PHP, MySQL, Apache, etc. However, it is a lengthy process and can last for several hours, but I believe that we will manage to drive it. I backed everything up in case of failure and there should be no problem when switching to the latest version of this operating system and so it is rather just a habit.
Traditional cleaning
As every month, there is again a traditional cleaning of the server database from inactive characters and accounts. Cleanup is also used to speed up the server, stability or to get a real number of players on our server. Again, I remind you that delete inactive accounts and characters on them that no one has logged in more than 2 months ago. If, for example, you are not on the server for two months, you only need to log in to the game account once in a while (less than 2 months) - you do not even have to go directly to the world - you just need to choose the characters, if of course you want to have an account still active (a friend you trust can log in and provide him with login information - but here I will remind you of the importance Rules 1.e). We do not make exceptions in deleting, because it is a bulk operation with many commands and applies to all. I also want to warn newcomers that not only inactive characters will be deleted, but also characters who have recorded less than 2 hours of net game time. Newcomers who do not fit into this time can at least start over and take it as a second try. Characters deleted by this purge are permanently deleted and cannot be returned from server backups or in any other way. Cleanup automatically deletes accounts without characters. If you have two or more unauthorized accounts (everyone has the right to one account), just delete all the characters from the account and the purge will take care of deleting the account. There is no other way to delete the account. Purge is a very demanding server operation, but our long-term experience, innovations, new commands and more have ensured that the whole process takes tens of minutes, despite the fact that the character database is very extensive and already has several GB of data.
